TEACHER COLLABORATION & TRAINING

TEACHER COLLABORATION & TRAINING

How can teachers collaborate across Europe?
How can new teachers be trained?

The tested collaboration among 18 teachers of six heritage languages in Finland, the Netherlands, and Sweden led to the creation of a digital platform with adaptable teaching tools and shared resources. This platform enables teachers to exchange materials, compare pedagogical approaches, and adapt lessons to their local school contexts.

Building the next generation of heritage language teachers requires both formal education pathways and practice-based professional development

← 2. Legal & Policy Framework

Across Europe, a growing number of teacher education programs and job training courses are focusing on how to prepare teachers for multilingual and intercultural classrooms.

Universities and higher education institutions can play a central role by offering Master of Arts (MA) programs or specialized modules focused on Home Language Teaching (HLT)

The digital platform and networks established through Your Language Counts! further support continuous professional learning. They provide teachers with open-access materials, teaching tools, and opportunities for peer mentoring—ensuring that HLT educators remain connected, supported, and informed across Europe.
