TEACHER COLLABORATION & TRAINING
TEACHER COLLABORATION & TRAINING
How can teachers collaborate across Europe?
How can new teachers be trained?
The YLC!-collaboration among 18 teachers of six home languages in Finland, the Netherlands, and Sweden led to the creation of a digital platform with adaptable teaching tools and shared resources.
This platform enables teachers to exchange materials, compare pedagogical approaches, and adapt lessons to their local school contexts. It also allows for peer mentoring and ensures that HLT educators remain connected, supported, and informed across Europe. The platform can be reached here and is open to other language teachers too.
Across Europe, a growing number of teacher education programs and job training courses are focusing on how to prepare teachers for multilingual and intercultural classrooms. See e.g. the European Center for Modern Languages in Austria.
Universities and higher education institutions play a central role by offering Bachelor and Master programs with specific Language and Culture modules.
Preparing a next generation of home language teachers it is indispensable to have those educated by academic programs as well as those trained by pratical experience.
